Apple releases full details of the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR
Are you a fan of Apple and its sleek, state-of-the-art iPhones? If so then you’re in luck, as the tech giant has unveiled three brand-new designs for 2018: the iPhone Xs (pronounced ‘ten s’), the iPhone Xs Max and the iPhone XR. These new handsets are equipped with revolutionary, high-tech features that allow for an improved user-experience and boast an incredibly impressive design.
iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
Let’s begin with the flagship devices: the Xs and the Xs Max. Available to pre-order Friday 14th September and in stores from the 21st, these sleek handsets come in gold, silver, or space grey and offer a wealth of impressive features.
One of the key features of last year’s iPhone X was its all-screen glass display and omittance of the physical home button, and the iPhone Xs and Xs Max are no different in this respect.
With a 5.8” super retina display, the iPhone Xs offers an edge-to-edge OLED-quality picture, whilst the Xs Max boasts the biggest super-retina display ever on an iPhone at 6.5”, as well as the highest pixel density of any Apple device - with over 3 million pixels for videos, movies and games.
What’s more, both devices have iOS system-wide colour management for the greatest colour accuracy on the market.
Offering an upgraded version of the popular iPhone X camera, both the iPhone Xs and Xs Max boast a 12-megapixel, faster and improved dual camera system, which enables better portraits and higher-quality videos - even in low light.
With breakthrough photo and video features, the Xs and Xs Max shoot Portrait mode photos with Smart HDR, creating higher-quality photos with more highlights and shadowing. What’s more, the two devices come with a revolutionary new feature that provides the ability to adjust the depth of field in the camera.
Apple’s other newly-revealed device, the XR, is a cheaper alternative to the Xs and Xs Max but still offers many of the same amazing features. It’s available to pre-order from Friday 19th October, and to buy in stores from the 26th.
The defining feature of the XR, the device is made from aluminium rather than stainless steel and is available in a range of colours, similar to the 5c: white, black, blue, yellow, coral and red, so you can choose the perfect colour for you.
Display & camera
Although slightly less advanced than its OLED-focussed counterparts, the XR boasts a 6.1” LCD liquid retina display that will still deliver a crystal clear, standout display and picture. The device, like the Xs and Xs Max, also offers an edge-to-edge screen and incredibly sleek design.
Like the other two devices, the XR is also equipped with an impressive 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera that has the ability to take advanced Portrait mode and Portrait lighting photos, making the handset ideal for selfies.
With an all-new sensor, the single camera system also delivers faster auto-focus and larger pixels that improve image fidelity and low-light performance.
So now we know about the individual handsets, what do all three have in common?
All three devices run on the new iOS 12 software, and feature a fresh, advanced processor - the A12 Bionic. The first ever 7-nanometer chip in a smartphone, with 8-core Neural Engine, this processor will help improve energy-efficiency and speed. This state-of-the-art processor will also help developers to build more sophisticated, in-depth video games and apps, with features that could never previously be run on a mobile device.
Improved Battery Life
On top of these amazing features, these devices will also offer users an improved battery life. The iPhone Xs offers 30 minutes longer battery than iPhone X, whilst the iPhone Xs Max boasts an hour and a half longer than the iPhone X.
The iPhone XR will last up to an hour and a half longer than the iPhone 8 Plus.
Another upgraded feature from the iPhone X, the three new devices come with facial recognition - allowing you to unlock your phone with your face! However, these three devices will have even faster Face ID than the iPhone X, making it even easier for you to unlock your phone, pay for items and log in to third-party apps.
Finally, all three devices are made with more durable glass and improved scratch resistance, with an added layer of protection against everyday spills. Another popular feature from the iPhone X, improved wireless charging is featured across all three new iPhones. Simply pop the phones on a wireless charging pad and their battery will begin to top up.
