Apple Announce New iPad and iMac

After all the excitement of the iWatch and iPhone 6 announcement in September, Apple have welcomed another addition to the family by formally introducing the new iPad Air 2: the world’s thinnest tablet.

Announced at the company’s California conference on October 16th, the new iPad clocks in at a svelte 6.1mm, 18% thinner than its predecessor. It will be compatible with Apple’s recently unveiled iPay system, which allows users to complete transactions with their handset simply by tapping it against a card reader. This technology is also available to iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users as of October 19th.

The iPad Air 2 will be joined by a new 27-inch iMac, which boasts the world’s highest resolution screen - the first significant update to the model since 2011. Preloaded with the latest Yosemite software but maintaining the iconic aluminium design, prices are set to start at $2,499.

Prior to the event, Apple also ‘leaked’ details of a second new iPad – the iPad mini 3 – in an iOS 8.1 user guide available via iBooks. Rumours are also abound of an upcoming Apple TV announcement, which fans are speculating may include a complete redesign to echo that of its nearest competitor, Google Chromecast.
