Amazon enter the smartphone market with its Fire phone

Amazon, the retail giant, is set to enter the mobile phone market with a new Smartphone which they’ve named the ‘Fire Phone’. The move will see them clash with the giants of the industry Samsung and Apple with their iconic iPhone.

The ‘Fire Phone’ was launched in the US yesterday at a special event in Seattle by the company’s Chief Executive Jeff Bezos. The Fire phone will include a new feature called ‘Firefly’ that will mean a user can identify objects in the real world and then buy them on Amazon or ‘online’.

The handset is also built to be easy to use to watch films and TV which ties in with Amazon’s burgeoning ambitions in supplying these services.

It is not yet known when the handset will launch in the UK or indeed whether it will be available via any high street stores or just online from Amazon. The US launch is set for July of this year.
