Gadget insurance for accidental damage
Many of us will have faced the feeling of sheer panic when realising we’ve accidentally dropped our gadgets or smashed our phone screens.
While unfortunate, thankfully having gadget insurance can save you a lot of bother when this does happen, but it can sometimes be difficult to understand what is and isn’t covered under accidental damage policies.
Here at Insurance2go, our award-winning gadget insurance policy keeps things simple, and is there to protect you and your gadgets when you need it the most.
What is accidental damage?
Accidental damage is the term that many insurers use to explain sudden, unforeseen events that result in the damage of your gadget. This can range from dropping your mobile phone down the toilet, to unexpectedly spilling a glass of water on your laptop – we’ve all been there.
With an accidental damage policy in place, policyholders could be able to claim for a full replacement gadget, or for the parts of the gadget that have been broken, whether it’s a keyboard, a screen or a technical component to your gadget. Not only that, but you can claim for accessories up to £150 to ensure you get your gadget back to just the way you like it.
As the name suggests, ‘accidental damage’ only covers problems that rise unexpectedly, therefore normal wear and tear and gadgets that have deteriorated over time cannot be claimed against. It’s important to keep in mind that there are certain things that could potentially void your insurance too, such as not having your proof of purchase when claiming.
Does gadget insurance cover screen damage?
If you accidentally drop your phone on a hard surface and the screen does crack, you can rest assured that many gadget insurance packages do cover screen damage, in fact it is one of the most common accidental damages that is claimed for. However, please make sure to check your policy documents as this can vary depending on the level of insurance cover you have.
Does gadget insurance cover liquid damage?
Whether you have accidentally dunked your gadget in your tea or dropped it down the loo by mistake, your accidental damage policy should cover these instances, providing that the damage isn’t intentional. Always check your policy documents to see what you are covered for in more detail.
