Candy Crush Team Launch Soda Saga Sequel

Building on the runaway success of Candy Crush Saga, game developer King has just released an official sequel: Candy Crush Soda Saga.

Launching on Facebook on October 21st before being introduced to smartphones in time for Christmas, Soda Saga shares much of its functionality with the original game, which made over $790 million in the first six months of 2014 alone. Players will still be expected to match three sweets, but the introduction of purple bottles will allow users to flip gravity across 165 new levels.

Although various spin-off ‘Saga’ games have already been produced by the company, this is their first attempt to build directly alongside the Candy Crush franchise. King’s chief creative officer Sebastian Knutsson told The Guardian that the game was designed to complement the original, rather than overshadow it. He explained: “We wanted to create a game that brought something fresh to Candy Crush, but you can still play it side-by-side with the original game, and we will continue developing both in parallel.”

King is also said to be developing new games in the mobile gaming market, with Knutsson hinting that new titles will involve increased social interaction options and may even translate to the console market.
