HTC Hints at Smartwatch Release in 2015
With Apple’s announcement of the iWatch in September, it seems inevitable that other manufacturers would follow its lead – and 2015 is shaping up to be the year of the smartwatch. According to re/code, Taiwanese firm HTC said it had planned to announce the launch of its own wearable tech on October 8th, but the device is “not yet ready”.
However, head of HTC’s Creative Labs wasn’t without some fighting talk regarding the state of the wearables market, saying “we honestly don’t think anyone has gotten it right” and current offerings don’t give consumers “a strong reason to wear one every day”.
“When we come to market with our product we want to make sure the product has a strong point of view and there is a really compelling reason to strap it on your wrist,” he added.
HTC said it will provide more details on its strategy for wearable tech early next year, which implies its own smartwatch may be going head-to-head with Apple’s release. The iWatch was announced on September 9th and is expected to be available in early 2015.
