Monday, November 30th, 2009

A designer in Liverpool has made the world’s most expensive i Phone costing £1.92 million. The phone has a casing made from 22 carat gold and has 200 diamonds embedded in it and took 10 months to make.

The box it comes in is made from granite and Kashmir gold, it is lined with nubuck leather. The phone was commissioned by an Australian businessman.

This is one iPhone that we cannot offer insurance on! Goodness knows we hope he doesn’t get it nicked.

The Carphone Warehouse raises earnings forecast

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Mobile phone retailer The Carphone Warehouse raised its full-year earnings forecast on the back of strong half-year profits of £75 million today, and said that it is on track to complete the planned demerger of its telecoms and retail companies by March 2010.

Europe’s biggest mobile phone retailer said that underlying earnings per share grew by 88 per cent in the six months to September 30 and raised its full-year earnings forecast to between 14p and 15p a share, higher than analysts’ estimates of 13.7p.

Carphone Warehouse, Britain’s second-biggest broadband provider, attributed the strong performance to a rising number of broadband customers signing up, and to buoyant demand for the Apple iPhone and other smartphones.

The Carphone Warehouse sells mobile phone insurance at point of sale but here at www.insurance2go.co.uk we would always recommend that customers shop around before signing up.

New ‘Else’ smart phone coming soon

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Former European Telecom investor Emblaze is in discussions with the UK channel to bring the ‘Else’ Linux-based smart phone to market in Q2 next year.

The Else touchscreen, five megapixel camera device was previewed in London last week.

Else claims that its differentiating factor is the user experience, saying that the usability of the functions such as the GPS and camera as they would on the stand-alone equivalent of the devices.

Users can access content from the device’s media store, with RSS news feeds already integrated.

Multiple applications can run simultaneously. All data and content, such as contacts, appointments, videos and photos can be accessed from any screen, and not just within a single dedicated application. Menus are displayed in a scrolling dial set up.

Israeli company Emblaze’s handset subsidiary, Emblaze Mobile, will also now change its name to Else to reflect an ongoing product range.

An Else spokesman said: “We don’t have any pricing details at present. Else is in discussions with several distributors, but cannot reveal any details as of yet. However the tentative retail launch is planned for early Q2, 2010.”

When the phone launches customers will of course be able to take out insurance with www.insurance2go.co.uk.

Tesco to offer the iPhone before Christmas

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Tesco Mobile is set to offer the iPhone before Christmas, the company have announced.

Tesco Mobile MVNO, which uses the O2 network and will offer Apple’s device on pay as you go and pay monthly basis. It did not reveal price plans but said tariffs would be ‘very competitive’.

Tesco Mobile said: ‘Tesco Mobile through its joint venture partnership with O2 is pleased to announce that it will shortly introduce iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in Tesco Phone Shops and online through Tesco Direct in the UK.’

This is quite a coup for the retailer who will now beat Vodafone in being able to offer the iPhone. Vodafone will be able to offer it but not until after Christmas in 2010.

An industry insider recently told us at insurance2go.co.uk that apple control the upfront pricing of the units very strictly which means that companies offering the unit can only compete on the tariff and network coverage.

Orange began selling the iPhone on 10th November and has concentrated its marketing on its network coverage rather than pricing.

Tesco is planning an expansion of its dedicated in store mobile shops and presumably the addition of the iphone to its portfolio will bolster this expansion.

Insurance offered on the top of the range iPhone is quite toppy. Carphone charge over £160 a year and Orange charge £12 a month or £144 a year.

Insurance2go has been providing mobile phone insurance for over 5 years and have a great record of offering great value insurance. To insure an iPhone Insurance2go charges just £5.99 a month.

Various updates from the Mobile Phone industry

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U have both suspended sales of the new Sony Ericsson Saito due to software issues that have led to a high level of returns. This is terrible news for Sony Ericsson just weeks away from the crucial Christmas period.  The Saito is their flagship model and to have it pulled from 2 of the country’s biggest retailers is a disaster.

In the Netherlands there are reports that a very small number of iPhone users have been victim to a worm that messes around with the applications on their phone. The worm has arrived only on handsets that have been unlocked to allow non Apple approved applications to work. The number involved is said to be in the hundreds but this is the second instance of a worm attacking iPhones.

It now looks as if the proposed merger between Orange and T-Mobile in the UK will go through without being referred to the monopolies and mergers commission. Good news for the two companies who have been perfroming strongly over the last 6 months. Orange will not doubt be looking forward to a strong Christmas with the new iPhone launch on their network on the 10th November.

Vodafone, the International telecoms giant, is experimenting with a system in Spain that allows users to pay more line rental or access charge and in return receive better access to the network at peak times. This effectively allows a customer to jump the q. With more and more customers using smartphones and data applications via the internet space on networks is being used up. Vodafone are seeing if there is an appetite amongst business users to pay for a better service. We think this is a tricky one to market as it leaves a network open to accusations or not looking after it’s ‘normal’ customers and not offering a good or even satisfactory service to non premium consumers.

Insurance2go is reaffirming its committment to reducing its carbon footprint by 10% in 2010. The company  will offer mobile phone insurance to consumers whilst trying to keep its carbon footprint to a minimum. Trains not cars, screen not paper, turn it all off at night.

Vodafone reinstate Fonelogistics

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Vodafone have reinstated Fonelogistics as a distributor in a change of heart over their distribution channels.

The network operator ended their airtime agreement with FL back in 2006 along with the agreement with Carphone Warehouse, now they are welcoming them back just as they have done with Carphone.

Vodafone has deveoped a new product portfolio for SMEs which it is looking to target. The SME market is seen as crucial for all operators as the users tend to be high spending users using their phones for both data and international calls.

www.insurance2go.co.uk have also developed a new product for Business users - our B2B packages offer very competitive mobile phone insurance offering all the elements that business users want as in wide ranging cover: theft, loss, damage unauthorised calls and crucially international cover.

Our B2B insurance can be paid for by invoice which suits businesses, we’re looking for some serious growth in 2010′.

Phone insurance often expensive at point of sale

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Customers who buy phone insurance from the retailer that sells them their phone often pay more than they need to.

Phone insurance offered from the likes of Phones4U, Carphone Warehouse and the network stores is more often than not alot more expensive than the equivalent cover offered from companies offering great value phone insurance online.

At www.insurance2go.co.uk we offer phone insurance at a much lower rate than the companies already mentioned and there are other online phone insurance companies that also offer low cost phone insurance.

We would recommend that customers don’t take phone insurance at point of sale but instead shop around first to find the best mobile phone insurance package for them.

At www.insurance2go.co.uk our mobile insurance starts at just £4.49 a month and we give you 3 months free in the first year or you can pay £40.41 as a one off payment for 12 months of phone insurance cover.

Why not check out our web site for details.
