Mixed bag of results for Orange

Orange have announced lower than expected earning in the 3rd quarter of this year but at the same time reported the largest amount of new subscirbers to the mobile base in 3 years. A total of 257.000 new customers were added in the 3 months to September.

If these new customers just under 200,000 were contract customers which means their ratio of cuntrace verses prepay is now at a solid 41%.

With the iPone launching on Orange on 10th November there is potential for a good Christmas especially as over 250,000 people have pre-registered interest in the iPhone.

To continue the mixed bad of results Orange’s broadband arm reported a drop in subscribers of 55,000 this is despite the company offerng new pricing packages and speeds of upto 20 mbps. Their broadband base is now just under 900,000.

Orange name the day for iPhone launch

Orange have named the day when they’ll be launching the iPhone - 11th November 2009. In good time for Christmas.

The iphone has been an undoubted success on the O2 network and we here at insurance2go are sure that it will be just as successful with Orange. Next year Vodafone wll introduce the iPhone and there are rumours as reported her last week that 3 will get a deal to sell the iphone sometime in 2010.

3 hopes to offer the iPhone in 2010

The mobile operator 3 is looking to offer the iPhone sometime in 2010. At present it looks like being the only operator without a deal in place to launch the handset on theirnetwork. Currently Orange will be launching before Christmas 2009 and Vodafone will be launching the handset in early 2010.

Orange are to offer their mobile phone customers upto 20Mbps speeds via their network. Not bad. They’ve also relaunched new pricing plans.

China Mobile is the worlds largest mobile phone company…..however, they just missed their expected profit growth. The company has over 500 million users - how big must their helpdesk call centre be!

Vodacom of South Africa have reported that first half earnings per share will declineby up to 20%.

Olympic demand on the airwaves

Ofcom have announced that they may have to borrow spectrum from the Ministry of Defence during the 2012 Olympics to cater for demand from people making calls.

This will raise questions over capacity in the event of a serious emergency.

At least they have time to sort it out.

3 first to bundle Spotify

3 have become the first UK network to bundle Spotify with a handset. The music service will come with the HTC Hero.

The Handset is a Google Andoid enabled handset.

Blackberry Storm 2 ariving on 26th October

The new Blackberry Storm 2 is arriving in shops on 26th October. Blackberry hope that this new handset will be a strong rival for the iPhone.

Cisco forks out to buy up Starent Networks

Cisco the US communications tech group have aquired Starent Networks for $2.9 billion. Starent manufacture Mobile broadband equipment.

It’s been an expensive month for Cisco who earlier in October purchased Tandberg the Norwegian conferencing group for $3 billion.

Orange sets up MVNO platform

Orange have announced that they have a new platform which will allow new MNVOs to launch in as little as 6 weeks.

The platform can be used by Telecoms resellers and brands wishing to target specificuser groups.

An Interesting development which could allow companies to maximise branding potential with personalised specialist services appealling to specific users.

Manchester United Telecom? Just a thought.
