Currys Digital take on Carphone in the Wireless world

CurrysDigital are taking the fight to Carphone by announcing the refurbishment of many of it’s stores to compete with Carphones Wireless World stores. Carphone hopes to have 24 of these stores operating by October 2009 and a total of 44 by 2010.Currys have said they hope to have 40 stores refurbished by 2010.

Both companies see growth in Broadband wireless connections both for the home, via laptops and via other devices that are coming to the market.

Apple to widen iPhone distribution

It is being reported in a number of papers and on websites this morning that Apple are set to widen the distribution of the iPhone to other networks.

Thus far the iPhone can only be purchased with an O2 connection but this looks set to change. Orange and T-Mobile look set to offer the iPhone from as early as September 2009.

Apple are looking to increase sales and restricting sales to just one network reduces the number of customers who can buy an iPhone especially upgrading customers - a very significant part of the market given the high level of penetration of phones in the UK.

Spice snap up ComGroup

Spice the utility support services group have snapped up the Australian telecoms group for £6.9 million. Spice saw their revenues rise 24% to £386 million for the year to May 1st.

NEC to return to the market outside Japan

NEC the Japanese maker of Mobile phones is to return to the world market after a break of over 2 years. A brave move given competitive nature of the market place.
