Mobile Cod

Friday, February 27th, 2009

A man has been reunited with his Nokia mobile phone after it was found inside a 4 foot cod. Andrew Cheatle had been playing with his dog on the beach when it slipped out of his pocket. He thought that was it and he’d never see it again.

Then trawlerman Glen Kerley found the phone a week later when he was gutting a 25lb four foot cod, he took out the SIM card and made some calls to see if he could reunite the phone with it’s owner. Amazingly when Andrew got the phone back he dried it out and it worked.

The poor cod must have had a shock when he ate the phone not exactly a tasty meal. We had some questions: Was the phone on vibrate? Were calls made to the phone when in the fish’s tummy? What’s the coverage like under the sea.

One charger finally!

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

The Mobile phone insdustry has finally got together and come up with a solution to the problem of having different chargers for every differnet model of handset.

It is estimated that old chargers made up 51,000 tonnes of waste last year releasing 21.8 million tonnes of greenhouse gases.

Now 17 operators and manufacturers have joined forces and will now offer 1 type of charger which will fit all models of phone.

Good news for the environment, good news for places that which to offer charging faciliaties such as cafes, planes, hotel and trains, good news for drawer space in our houses, and good news for when you visit friends no need to take a charger with you.

Soon it will be possible to just buy the phone and be offered that charger if you wish to have one. It’ll take a few years to flow through as everyone upgrades their handsets but eventually we’ll all be sing the same type.

Anyway there are still areas of growth - China, India are obvious examples but will growth in these conutries slow over the next 12 months. The economy in China is showing signs of slowing so this maybe the case.
